Matanot means "gifts" in Hebrew. The origin of Matanot goes back more than twenty years.
The present owner started as a voluteer at a local synagogue in La Jolla, CA, and knew nothing about selling Judaica. She put in regular retail hours, and in just a short time, bought the business as a private enterprise, requiring a move to a larger store. Her passion for the business shows in her taste for buying, selling, and merchandising her goods. It became such a lucrative business that people offered to buy the store.
After nine years of retirement, Pauline Sonboleh is back to serving the Jewish community in San Diego with the same enthusiasm and expertise in Judaica she has always shown.
